Just My Luck!

I sent in my report today to do with the graphic design industry during my second class. Everyone was of course still confused about what they were supposed to do for the assignment that shows our competence in gaining relevant industry information because I was told by my lecturer to copy and paste most of the info, but make sure it's relevant and include a bibliography to make sure not getting caught with plagiarism (I remembered that Sherwyn copied his friend's whole report and changed it and added other bits in to make sure it looked like his work which I think as being the most smart and stupid thing ever done for completion in an assignment like this of which in Tafe they take seriously. I had to wait for a long, long time because in all of my classes, I'm the last on the roll (which leaves me as the loner of the classroom). While I was waiting, I heard about the conversations of other people and heard from one girl that after all these years of finding out what MySpace is (apart from a being a rather unworkable, yet hideously gaudy excuse for a blog), she decided to start her own "blog"! Wow, so she's not that computer illiterate after all... I thought again in a sarcastic manner. I wondered when the rest of the girl's idiot friends are going to catch up to all this. After all the students left, it was my turn to submit my report and obtain the results. I noticed that the lecturer scanned the pages instead of reading everything, but after a few minutes, he was satisfied and deemed me (and everyone else) competent in this area of the class, which was not good, but great. We had a blackout earlier on that affected Armadale, Kelmscott, Gosnells, Mt Nasura and Thompson Lakes which was repaired at 9:00 pm, just my luck!

A Few Lightbulbs Missing... Right Here at Perth Campus!

I just found out something horrible in my Tafe classrooms... The group I sit close to (the one from my last class today) is apparently not as bright as they should be, which of course is bad for me because a) I might have to work with them in a group project one day b)they'd rather go out and get maggoted to death (and possibly to their deaths) and c) do bugger all for homework and the classwork given. The only people who has maturity and intelligence in my tafe class would be The Lady Who Wears Office Gear On Most Days, The Girl Who Wears Glasses That Sits Near Me Outside Class, The Artistic Asian Chick, The Girl Who Wears Black Every Day, The Guy Who Knows Photoshop Like I Do and The Other Guys Who I Don't Know What To Say About Them*. I remembered the eldest one from the group close to me saying that last Friday she went to the pub straight after and that for our symbols project she doesn't know what she's doing and yet she still wants to do jack-nothing (wow, that'll help you a lot to pass this class, I thought rather sarcastically) and they don't know what Stem Cell Research is! I was shocked at hearing this from a girl older than me who I think is in the twenties age range who is more concerned about alcohol than something that actually matters, like Tafe. Guess I'd better stick with the following people for the rest of my Tafe year: The Lady Who Wears Office Gear On Most Days, The Girl Who Wears Glasses That Sits Near Me Outside Class, The Artistic Asian Chick, The Girl Who Wears Black Every Day, The Guy Who Knows Photoshop Like I Do and The Other Guys Who I Don't Know What To Say About Them and hopefully stay away from the other group before my poor brain degenerates into useless and unrecoverable mush.

* The real names of these people will not be mentioned for obvious reasons

Reunion Friday?

On Friday yesterday I ran into the most unlikely of people on my way to Kelmy station; Matthew (who is in Freo Tafe), Carmen (a friend from high school) and Cassandra (another friend from high school) I was quite shocked at the fact that Matthew's hair changed from its usual bright blue (think light blue candy floss) to a platinum blonde that will make him a walking talking mirror! Apparently a superior from either Macca's or Tafe (I couldn't remember which exactly, it was one of them) to change his haircolor back to its "natural" state; which it was blonde once, a dirty blonde (brunette according to his brother). The first word I said upon seeing him outside his campus was: "Oh my god!" due to the fact that a) his hair was blonder that blonde and b) he was outside his campus for once. I met Cassandra and Carmen in the Perth station whilst waiting for the train to come and we started to say hi and how/what are you doing" etc and it happens that the both of them (I think) was in the same campus (Mt Lawley?) doing Cert IV courses. Cassie says that I haven't changed much; which is true, because I'm still slightly introverted and that I'm short (insert shortness jokes on train here). Her Japanese language skills are coming back to her like flashbacks in fast-forward on tape, which is good because she has another Japanese exchange friend (I'm a tad envious about this, all the weird and new food she'll be eating, damn it! *shakes fist in anger*) with her. I didn't talk to Carmen much and she didn't say that much, but still it was fun to catch up with a few friends on the train. I hope I run into other friends in this manner :)

Week The Second, Day The First

The start of the day ahead was very boring I'm afraid with both the Typography and Knowledge tutorials classes; but luckily Mike was there to alleviate it all before departing for his classes and leaving me a loner for the next couple of hours. I walked around with a bunch of friends during the break and lunch time hours of Tafe and met David (one of Mike's many friends) along the way before we all migrated somewhere else in the Tafe lunching grounds. I had to finish the day watching a PowerPoint presentation and bore myself to death whilst doing it and take notes rather grudgingly and now also knowing that our whole class had a 20 page report to compile before the fourth week. The only highlight at the end of the day was the Regent cake shop near the Australian Tax Office; do me a favor, rock up there, brig some cold hard cash and buy some cakes for yourself, they're good!

The First Week At Tafe

My first week of Tafe has been confusing, scary, fun and somewhat enlightening for me. I have only one class of which I will start hating the most which is second class of the Drawing Workshop which is lectured by Brendan Hibbert; which uses measuring "techniques" and guides to draw objects in the "easiest" way possible of which I think as confusing and pure bullshit. The other classes which is the Topography Workshop (which deals with font layouts and bits of languages) headed by lecturer Kurt Fischer is okay, changing to a rather fun class despite the fact that the lecturer is a bit of a hypocrite and is forcing it upon us as art students and future graphic designers to judge everything, including people; at least his inner child hasn't dropped dead yet. The next class during Monday starting at 1:30 pm is the Knowledge Tutorials class which frankly, I don't know what in the blazes we are supposed to be doing in there; the lecturer, Mirek Woznica, ended up handing us delinquent yet educated, teenagers and young adults to a librarian (I forgot what his name was) who went on and on about the library (I always think of Star Wars and Obi-Wan Kenobi because of the JEDi info database thingy they use in the library at Perth Campus) and gave us a tour of the place despite our obvious signs of fatigue, boredom and lack of interest. I remembered getting lost more than once during my trip to retrieve a library card of my own. Tuesday's class was short, even though the timetable for that one and only class stated 2:30 pm to 6:30 pm. Being the little worry wort that I am, I went to Perth rather early for Tafe and hung around there for a few minutes and made my obligatory trips to Empire Toys and Quality Comics (I got another issue of Star Wars Tales, issue 20 and put the first volume of Rozen Maiden by Peach Pit on order there) before going to the Colour Workshop with lecturer Rina Franz who stated that children are the best of drawers for some quaint reason or other before Lazar Radonavich (the lecturer who thought Rina's class was his class and also thought all the students were meditating or something) exited the class; all we did in that class was draw lines and repetitive patterns and turned them "accidentally" into shapes in pencil, I didn't know how I endured the silent and slow torture of it all myself. Wednesday was one of those flashback days for me; I had to learn to use a mac computer again because we'll be using them for a whole year, the login procedure to be on the network is a hassle to me though, but unlike the last day's class, I endured thanks to a little help from Christopher sitting next to me during class. During the next class with the same lecturer, we had to turn words into symbols or logos but we had to brainstorm for that, too bad for our group because of the lack of communication and extra lightbulbs to go with it. On Thursday I had no classes, which was nice, but I was worried about Mike in case he was looking for me on that day. Friday was a good start, but a nightmarish ending for the first of my week; the first class with Jay Scroop as lecturer was fun; drawing things like shoes and hands can really show how craptastic I can draw even if I squint with one eye shut. After that class I caught up with Mike and his group of followers in the cafeteria after he came after me from behind and talked to me as if we've been separated for ten years and introduced me to his friends: Neal, David, the girl whom I forgot her name and couple of other people there as we ate and socialized until it was time for us to part :( The last class with Brendan Hibbert is a nightmare; he uses weird guides and lines to draw things such as skulls and heads of humans with a pencil whilst teaching us students to be good doctors along the confusing way to Artist-Doctor Land; following the others down the same rabbit-hole wasn't as easy as I expected and to make matters worse, he told us (Brendan the lecturer) to practice on them! Gah! How supposed to practice on these hellish things anyway? But I guess practice makes perfect, bah humbug!

Of course my week at Tafe doesn't sound too full on like yours in the ways of ticking boxes and whatnot; I remember that it was only on Friday that my classmates have stopped behaving like zombies on sedatives and started socializing with me and the others there. But the last on friday as I've pointed out is the most atrocious!

I have a group of friends I hang around with who have all the same classes as me (of whom I don't know their names) and Mike (who is at the same building as me for his classes) and his friends as well. I also start conversations with random people when I have the time too.

Do what my mother says I *should* do; go to the library and study, study, study or buy the required tools for an art project; like I did today :P

The Excitement That Is Of Tafe

Just two days to go until we go to Tafe, Central campus in Perth. I'm feeling quite frightened because I might go to the wrong class and possibly get lost along the way too, which wouldn't be that great. I've got all the stationery yesterday courtesy of my older sibling dragging me all the way out to Armadale shopping city (which we could've got from a stationery shop down the road from us instead of going all the way to Armadale) to the following stores: K-Mart (for all your back-to-school-needs), Thingz, Inspirations and the Armadale Shopping City newsagency (for the task of obtaining paintbrushes and tubes of paint). I remember a woman that came to my sister's boyfriend to ask for fifty cents but if I was Adam I wouldn't give the fifty cent coin to the woman because she looked suspicious and she was downright rude and snobby (rudeness and snobbery are the two "things" that I despise when it comes to people) in the way of talking and plus she was demanding the money too! I was thinking; Oh my god... What a b****! I was quite panicky and worrisome about this whole outing because it seemed to me as if my time being there was quite limited because I had work starting at five o'clock and ending at ten yesterday (which the manager changed the ending time at nine, which was nice of her) and plus the summer heat and all the walking from one other stationery shop and back to Challis station afterwards which was a total pushover and also the shopping bags provided from K-Mart (you know, the white near-transparent and flimsy ones) started to get holes in them because of all our papers that we brought (printer /copier paper, lined paper for our files, etc) couldn't be carried properly because of all the weight. I arrived back home hungry and thirsty with a few minutes before going out into the world again for work... whoop-dee-doo. I've read the Tafe timetable I've received and some of my courses go from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm with can and will play havoc on other priorities such as work and my driving lessons, eep!
